LAMBDA BEHAVIORAL THREAT ASSESSMENT & MANAGEMENT COURSE

Course Description

This course is for industry professionals who desire to understand and recognize the warning signs of targeted violence, as well as address threatening behaviors before an individual escalates to violence. This is an eight (8) hour introductory course consisting of classroom instruction.

Course Objectives

The goal of this course is to educate individuals on recognizing the warning signs of targeted violence, that is to identify, assess, and manage threats before they escalate into harm. It serves to empower security professionals at all levels, and participants will learn how to triage suspicious activity identification, response, and reporting. It follows Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) best practices and techniques, teaching students how to apply these BTAM best practices to assist in preventing mass violence, such as, but not limited to, terrorism, school shootings, stalking, or mass attacks in public spaces, by identifying those threats or observable behaviors that may indicate the potential for violence. This course outlines a ten-step BTAM model to identify, inquire, assess, and manage individuals who display threats or observable behaviors that may concern others.

The BATM course prepares security teams and individual agents to develop intervention techniques designed to move individuals away from conducting a potential attack. It emphasizes the importance of communal involvement in violence prevention – to include supporting interventions for individuals while respecting their constitutional rights, privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will be able to successfully identify behavioral precursors to violent attacks. Students will have a strong understanding of the 10-step BTAM process, and their relative role(s) in reducing potentially violent incidents. Students who successfully pass the course will receive a BTAM Course completion certificate.
